Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

An awards scheme to recognise people who take a stand against crime and antisocial behaviour has been set up the Home Office.

The awards form part of the Community Crime Fighter scheme, which aims to strengthen the links between crime fighting agencies and the wider community by training local volunteers to work alongside councils and the police to make their local communities safer.

The new awards scheme will recognise "exceptional people" who have helped to tackle antisocial behaviour in their neighbourhood.

There will also be an award for practitioners who have been nominated for the high level of service they provide to their local community in the fight against crime and disorder.

Louise Casey, director general of the Neighbourhood Crime and Justice Group, said: "The public are our best weapon in fighting crime they know what is really going on in their neighbourhood, what the real problems are and where residents' concerns lie."
