Have just discovered that sometime last week someone tried to break into our mid-terrace house on Burgoyne by the back garden - the would-be burglar jumped the fence by the canal, then through our neighbours' gardens, then up our fire escape where they tried to crowbar the sash window. They succeeded in breaking the acorn latch clear in two, but thankfully not the security bolts. By the looks of the footprints in the snow today, it seems they may have come back for another go, or a go at a neighbour's place. Have emailed the Harringay Safer Neighbourhood Team to let them know, but a timely reminder to everyone to make sure that back windows are properly latched, and security bolts fastened.

and the SNT were round last week to tell us about a burglary at the bottom of Cavendish, through a sash window. Look out indeed.
I have always felt relatively safe mid-terrace, did they go through a lot of gardens Malcolm?
They went through three gardens to get to our neighbour's place - not sure if they tried any further up the terrace, but the trail in the snow suggests they may have.
There has been a real spate of burglaries on the Ladder over the past few months. I'm only just getting things back into order after being burgled last October. In my case they hopped over two fences and levered french doors open.
Really sorry to hear this. Thanks for alerting us. I can't believe that these people come back for another go! I remember a post a few months ago described that the same thing - that burglars came back to the property for round 2. You would think that they would be scared that they would be more likely to be caught.
Do you know what kind of time the attempt was made?
We were away at the time, so we don't know when they tried to get into ours, but the attempt on our neighbours was during the day on Monday.
This explains the plant pot moved from my kitchen window sill at the beginning of this week. So they've been at 76/78 Burgoyne too.
Thanks Malcolm, I've done that and also left notes for my immediate neighbours, who may not see this website.
A little update on this - I spoke to Lise at the SNT this week. Three people were arrested in connection with break-ins to flats behind Green Lanes last week, she thinks that will be the end of the current crop of uninvited visitors to our gardens.
