Don't be too scared. It's very likely just a wee little blip of the sort that happens in every neighbourhood from time to time. (Cold comfort to those affected, I know, and my sympathy to those who've suffered).

Our burglary rate is actually pretty good. In many neighbourhoods you wouldn't be aware of this sort of thing for lack of an effective community info network. So don't let the presence of information scare you - just use it in the spirit of forewarned is forearmed.

I hope all these burglaries and attempts are being reported to the Safer Neighbourhoods Team so they get a picture of what is going on ?

That's terrible news Sally. It seems as if people are increasingly desperate to break in these days. I hope the police are onto it.

Thanks all. Yes the police were alerted straight away and they have responded really quickly and been excellent so far.

I would agree with Hugh in saying don't be too scared but also take it as a message to not be too laid back about security. I can't emphasise enough how important it is to use your chub locks.

p.s. i am having the locks repaired and have details of a good, reasonably priced locksmith if anyone wants them. also, i bought a london bar from lynbo on green lanes for £19 which was very reasonable and worth getting to improve security - see here http://www.londonbar.co.uk/contents/en-uk/d54_london_bar.html

just had SNT team around. I found Lisa really helpful and we had a good chat about security. apparently there were 2 flats targeted on Umfreville and another on Burgoyne at the end of last week.
