According to a recent report in the Daily Telegraph, as the weeds have been growing outside the half-completed Asda in the former Queen's Head, the supermarket has been struggling to recover from adverse trading conditions that have seen its market share tumble.
The paper reported that, "...after years of turmoil, there were signs that things were starting to turn".
A series of photos of the Harringay store by Jeff Gilbert were used in the report to illustrate the abandoned look of half finished stores across the country. A photo of grafitti on the former pub with the message “Please open Asda” was used to depict residents' frustariuon at the lack of progress.
Asda’s chairman Allan Leighton believes the company has turned a corner and the article concluded that there is hope of the Harringay store opening (but it gave no clue as to when that might happen).
