Since the closure of Thomerson's in Crouch End I don't know where to go when I want a specifc piece of timber cut to size. Do you have any suggestions?
I need a piece of shelving about 40x60 cm to put my printer on, in case anyone has something lying around. The material/colour etc is unimportant as long as it's reasonably sturdy.

There's a few places - but I've been to Lawson's before -, bit of a trek.
Mems in Tottenham is highly rated, but might be worth calling ahead as I've never been there.
Hi Maddy,
I have an offcut of 25mm thick veneered MDF that you're welcome to. Size is approx. 38 x 57cm. It's an odd shape at the moment, but I could cut it to a rectangle for you.
That would be perfect - my printer is balanced precariously at the moment. If you could cut it straight for me, I'd be very grateful. Have sent you a private message with my phone number - if you let me know where you live I'll pop round and pick it up when it suits you.
For future reference, some of the DIY shops and most of the Builders suppliers offer a sheet cutting service in-store. It's only for sheet goods (i.e. MDF, Ply, OSB) not planks of timber. I believe they'll do laminate furniture board and Timberboard though. Most give you a couple of cuts free and then a small charge per cut. So for this purpose you could buy a 600x1200 board of 18mm MDF for around £10 and they'd cut it down to 600x400 for you. You don't have to take the leftover wood home with you (in fact there's usually a bin where you can grab offcuts for free.)
Note not all Wickes/B&Q have saws in store so check first. The ones I've used locally include:
Selco Wood Green
B&Q Tottenham
B&Q Frien Barnet (although their saw if often closed)
Wickes Edmonton
I would strongly advise calling ahead to make sure the service is up and running though.
