Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Anyone up for a sociable Board Games group?
I'm thinking either Family Sunday afternoon or Grown up down t'pub evening..(or who knows, both even)
We are a small family who like board games-(me plus 10yr old boy & 15 yr old girl). Current favourites are Forbidden island, Carcassonne, card games-(in general, but poo head perennial warm up), and some other new ones like Love letter and Pandemic. I'm by no means an expert in board games, just a enjoy them- and am amazed at the number of new and interesting ones that keep cropping up so always keen to try out other peoples. My kids also like Dragonology and Ticket to Ride. It's an eclectic mix!
The only game i have to say i'm really not keen on is monopoly (I just think it brings out the worst in people).
Basically, if I can sort out a lazy sunday afternoon time/venue are there folks who'd like to meet up and bring their games, & we'll bring ours for a bit of a session? I thought a Sunday afternoon family friendly meet up, but it could be mixed ages if you don't mind mixing it with the younger brigade.
I'm quite happy to do any logistical sorting but also to relinquish that to others if you have suggestions about venues etc.
If you like the idea but not the family type element and feel perhaps an adult only evening at the pub with a few games sounds great- please do also reply, i'd be up for that too..

I'd be interested and might be able to persuade my 10 year old son and my 6 year old daughter would want to come too. Current favourites are King of Tokyo and Escape Zombie City. We have Memoir 44 and Formula De too. I would like to play my unused copy of Diplomacy and also Kingmaker which I played in my teens. My daughter's favourite is Hey, That's My Fish. To be honest I enjoy playing games more than my kids but rarely spare the time to play and would be interested in a lazy Sunday family afternoon.

Sounds great! I've not played any of the games you mention so will be good to try out something new. King of Tokyo sounds particularly fun
. Let's see if any other replies come in and then try and sort out a Sunday. So far the dates i'm thinking about are 18th Jan or 8th Feb.

Boardgames Day
It's the LAST SUNDAY of the month, so it must be board games day at the Big Green Bookshop. You'll have the chance to relive some of your childhood classics like Monopoly but also try some of the new generation of games like Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne and Labyrinth. These are fun, pacey, challenging games that don't drag on endlessly until you've lost the will to live.
Come along to the bookshop anytime throughout the afternoon, choose a game and spend a pleasant afternoon in the lovely surroundings of the bookshop trying to build your railway network, build your medieval empire or create a new civilisation. We'll provide coffee and tea, but bring along snacks to keep your mind focussed on destroying your opponents. Come along with friends or by yourself, we'll sure that there'll be a game you can join in with. If you want to bring along your own game then that's fine (especially if it's Escape From Colditz, I haven't played that for years) or if you want us to get a particular boardgame then just let us know and we'll do our best to get it (not Twister!).
There's even a Facebook Group called BOARD TO DEATH.....
This is a FREE club and we hope you tell all your friends about it.

Hmm, I think the youngest we had regularly (not including my daughter who was 7 at the time she popped along) was 16. Oldest... Hmmm, I dont like to speculate, but I'm 45, and a few are slightly older than me. I'd say average age is probably in the 30's somewhere.

I was also going to mention the Board games group at The Big Green Bookshop. (i'm a regular there myself, and a member of the Board to Death facebook group) But also theres a group called London on Board who meet almost every night of the week and at the weekend at a series of pubs throughout the centre of London. the meetup URL for that one is http://www.meetup.com/LondonOnBoard/
For Board to Death, we have no restrictions on age. Its normally adults, with the youngest currently being 16, but my 7 year old occasionally attends, and wins at 'King of Tokyo', or 'Hey Thats my fish!'
But, if theres a meetup happening, I'd love to join in. I'm awful at checking threads though, so ping me :)

Update on this- i'm thinking i'll definitely give the Big Green Bookshop session a visit, but i'm not free to do that until February (which i think is the 22nd?)
As a last minute idea- is anyone available this Sunday 18th January, perhaps to meet up around 3pm maybe at Salisbury or perhaps Blend/other local venue?
We haven't yet played our own copy of Pandemic (have played it with friends) so kids are keen to give it a whirl!

I'm a no-go this weekend I'm afraid (off to visit relatives) But I'll be at the BGBS the week after. If you're not able to make this months, look out for us the month after!
