The gas works on Tollington Park / Stroud Green seems to have a big impact - even onto Endymion Road, which might explain some of it.
Which roads are gridlocked Adam?
falkland, and it looked like wightman was pretty solid from a distance
wightman was solid and hewitt road was backing up too.......
Yes, Wightman going south is a very pleasant 3 - 5mph Zone, with about one vehicle every 100 yards going north. Seems we don't even need a Green Lanes Festival to give us traffic nirvana up here. Long may it last!
All too shortlived, alas. Wightman is annoyingly liquid again. Any advice on how we might arrange some irregular gridlock up here of, say, Sainsbury/Arena proportions? Maybe a few mornings and evenings each week until at least more intelligent drivers get pissed of enough to leave their four wheels at home or find what TfL might call an 'alternative route'.
We should hire a hearse, preferably horse drawn, to patrol Wightman Road at a respectful 5 mph. No-one even dares peep their horn at a hearse!
Yes, Dan, with a fitting floral arrangement saying 'DEAD SLOW'.
A sight to gladden OAE's eye - a 41 double-decker bus proceeding southward along Wightman Road :-)
Indeed, John, to go one better than your 41 and Danzigger's hearse, just over two years ago we had a funeral cortege comprising a hearse + Routemaster from St Paul's Church to Highgate Cemetery. Perfect traffic calming all the way.
Yes, it's roadworks Tollington Way / Stroud Green Road, Tollington Way / Hornsey Road, mini traffic lights in Crouch End, and there was also a broken down car in the junction at the other end, it was a complete nightmare. Add on the completely idiotic traffic lights on Endymion Road by the Finsbury Park gate, and you have complete grilock. Have abyone noticed how these lights cause traffic to back up, btw? They're red for up to a minute at the time, you could have 5 grannies crossing comfortably in that time, it's completely ridiculous. This whole area is being dug up or messed with at the moment.
This is the only pedestrian-friendly controlled crossing in the whole area, affording a very civilised entrance/exit to Finsbury Park for pedestrians and cyclists. Contrast this with the 3-second 'green man' of the traffic-friendly lights at the Warham/Salisbury Rd junction on Green Lanes. Interfere with the Hornsey Gate green man and you'll have me and my 5 grannies to deal with.
