anyone know why there are huge traffic jams this morning (monday 9th nov)?

it is almost gridlock on some of the ladder roads

And me.

I agree that they stop the traffic for a rather long time but this is mitigated by the fact that two or three cars go through on the red light before anybody bothers to stop.

I'll be up there with a hammer one day VERY soon, those lights are a complete joke. And I am not joking, Ther's got to be a happy medium, and the fact that they're 80% of the reason Wightman Road is such a nightmare in the mornings. Surely Wightman Road residents would like the traffic to flow a bit better in the mornings? And no, I am not buyng a bloody bike, for reasons too many to go into here.

I agree with Anette, I have never seen lights that stay red for as long as these ones. Itake people's point about being pedestrian friendly but they could still be pretty friendly and shorter. The traffic on Wightman is abysmal and the phasing of these lights is certainly a factor. I'm almost embarrassed to push the button!
