We live in Tottenham Hale. Not far from the forest of ugly, out-of-scale massively overpriced towers still rising despite Covid-10 and despite the falling appeal of buses and trains. As cars offer some covid protection they cram the roads to the point where car journeys in the evening rush hour may not seem worth attempting.
I wasn't surprised when someone rang the doorbell and asked to buy a visitor's permit. (Which I gave them.)
They'd taken half an hour not to get very far. As we know, the few exit roads were jammed so they'd decided to park. Quite understandably didn't want a ticket.
Is this happening elsewhere?

Thanks for the link.
However I'm thinking more about the local situation we have in our cluster of streets where, at peak times, it appears that drivers may become in effect "trapped". If they park and walk they risk getting a parking fine. (PCN). And what if someone is disabled? Or has young children?
You must be new to this 'Harringay' website.
Around Tottnm Hale it may be the beginning of the madness that happens around xmas for the shopping. It will be nigh on impossible to park (free) in the retail 'park' for the next few weekends. And hooray the shops can stay open 24/7 inc Sundays.
True that cars are now the preferred safer way of travelling. The mask-avoiders on buses and tubes stop me using such, so I now drive the journeys I can't walk. Do they know this?
Thanks for reminding me to avoid Sainsbury's Arena for the next few weeks.
Believe one of the biggest issues is the Uncontrolled parking issues in Willoughby Lane N17. You have a major working industrial area. Which is served by a single way - each side of road. Where Parking is not enforced.
Yes are some is Spurs Only matches but others are Double Yellow lines
I have been caught in long tail backs from lordship lane to Tesco's at Edmonton
Even seen many cars marked up for sale. Which takes up limited parking spaces
Also not helped in early evenings with people visiting religious meetings right in the neck of the jam. Who seem they can park anywhere and badly
Also joys of growing population all wanting and using vehicles. Plus increased number of white person vehicles
Thanks Bob.
As you'll know, tailbacks in Willoughby Lane are likely to have a knock-on impact in the roads bordered by Lansdowne Road, High Road Tottenham, Monument Way, and the mainline rail and River Lee navigation - the eastern barrier. Once into this approximate rectangle of streets, drivers seeking ways out can quickly become part of the "trapped" traffic.
Bob, could you please tell us when you last observed the problems you describe? As you know things are swiftly changing. Including the key factor that we've been spared the dubious blessings of attended Spurs games.
Also, if you haven't done so, would you mind passing on your observations to a councillor named Matt White. Such problems may fall within his portfolio of "Strategic Transport". I've no idea if he's competent or not; or if he knows how to make anything happen. But I always start by hoping for the best. For the time being we have to work with what we have.
Usually pass through there early afternoons, issue is when a bus stops outside Sports Center, or delivery vehicles doing house deliveries, Traffic backs up. Plus large lorries trying to access industrial estate. Expect a big issue was closing Northumberland Park station Crossing for traffic.
Will contact councillor Matt White
Thanks again, Bob.
Maybe it's not crystal clear where Seema Chandwani's parking remit may overlap with Matt White's "Strategic Transport " remit. So as a back-up, copy both?
I imagine this sort of problem may recur in other neighbourhoods where groups of streets have limited routes in and out, with perhaps traffic lights, and long lines of traffic. choking main roads.
A few years ago residents asked for passing points in Dowsett Road. N17. But in a 101 Council like Haringey residents are almost always wrong.
It's also predictable that the multi-tower over-building programme at Tottenham Hale would lead to the occasional gridlock and perhaps in the medium term a Tetris-like snarl-up.
Genuine question but where are all these people going in their cars all the time? I haven't owned one since moving to London. And when I wanted to avoid public transport I bought a bike.
I go home by Middle Lane, then into Hornsey High street. I had to go round the Middle Lane roundabout and back along Middle Lane to go home via Ferme Park road. Why? There's bumper to bumper vehicles from Ally Pally to Wightman road. So Priory road and Hornsey High street totally blocked. Never seen that before.
