I recently started keeping quail in my garden and wondered if anyone else locally does the same, or is lucky enough to have the space to be keeping chickens? I hope to incubate a few eggs soon and I would really value any local contacts who do the same, who I could share knowledge and experience with?
Thanks
Anna
Hi that is amazing - if you link up with me on this I'd love to know how easy/difficult it is. Bit worried about the foxes etc but have lots of space ....
very easy, they don't take up much room, happy to send you pictures of my enclosure - i'll PM you...
We keep chickens. We're on St Ann's Road. Our next door neighbour does too. We don't have any at the moment due to a fox attack - our second. New security measures are being put in place though, and come September we'll hopefully have our little flock of three restored and back to about 15 delicious eggs a week!
By the way, our problem was a flaw in the lock on our coop - it turns out that with enough persistence and strength, foxes can get some 'foxproof' locks open, so now we're going for one that needs a locking pin.
sorry to hear that william! i've been lucky so far, but i don't think the foxes know the quails are there yet - as soon as they find out i'm sure they'll do their best to get in!
can i ask how much space you need for your chickens?
We have a 6' by 3' coop/run, and we've just bought a long 3' by 6' extension, making the whole thing into an L shape. They used to have the run of the garden when we were in but the first fox came during the day when we were around so that's no longer an option.
We have three Chickens in a run on the flat roof of our kitchen. We have never had any trouble with Foxes. I thinking about getting more chickens.
Quails sounds good. Are they producing eggs? Are you planning to eat them?

wow, that sounds like such a great use of space! yes i get an egg a day from each of the girls - although you need quite a few as they're so little. i want to breed some more so i get more eggs, but not sure what to do with any boys i hatch - i can't really keep them as they'll fight constantly. has anyone had experience of hatching, and what do you do with the extra males?
