Alternative to Stair carpets

Hi

Looking for an  alternative to stair/ landing carpets.

Have previously had stripped , painted stairs ……looked good , easy to clean ( two cat household) but cold and noisy.

Has anyone used  Cork ? 

Would welcome any suggestions .
