Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Alternative to Haringey's "dreadful, loud, intrusive & very irritating" phone hold music

A nice idea from Cllr. Alan Stanton on an email to his fellow councillors. Published with his permission.

I'm told there was a problem with phonecalls to the Council. Apparently lots of people hung-up and redialled while their calls were being transferred. Because there was silence, they thought they'd been cut-off. This wasted their time and added to the work of the switchboard staff etc
The 'solution' was to install the current 'waiting' soundtrack which now plays while you're hanging-on.

Unfortunately, it's dreadful. Loud, intrusive and very irritating music interspersed with syrupy, faux-sincere messages.

"Oh, please don't go because we're slow. We'll eat you up, we love you so."

Here's my suggestion for an alternative.

Record and play random excerpts from a compilation of music made in Haringey's schools.

I spoke to Peter Desmond who is in charge of school's music. He welcomed the idea and said there need not be copyright problems if they used music they've composed.
(Traditional or out of copyright music would also be possible.)
