Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Alexandra Park Racecourse to return as part of housing development.

Horse racing could be back in Haringey as early as 2018 according to an article in Racing Post (print only version). A feasibility study is looking into the creation of a horse racing track at the bottom of Alexandra Park, near to the original.

This plan comes as part of a much needed injection of cash from the Qatari Sovereign Fund into the delayed Heartlands Development in Wood Green (housing & retail), which sits next to Alexandra Park. The number of housing units would nearly double thanks to the re-newed investment.

Heartlands through the developers

The Qataris, already heavily involved in British racing, are keen to bring horse racing back to North London as part of an extension to the Heartlands housing Development. Boris was said to be utterly delighted with the news ... ‘a flutter on the horses is good for the soul and should be welcomed with a boost to housing in the heart of Haringey’.

According to the article in Racing Post the planning application will go in ‘after the feasibility study has been completed in June’. Parkside Malvern Residents Association are said to be unhappy about the plans.

And I hear that Sainsbury's, worried about the negative PR as a result of the long queues to exit the car park, are actively considering turning the car park area back into a dog track, with a circus at Christmas.

Friend of mine involved in planning said the proposal will put the race track on duckets common and involve demolishing all the roads at the top end of the ladder.
This would make the most of the transport conections for the rest of london and the leisure facilities on green lanes.
It also solves the east west transport problems by widening Turnpike Lane . The council would receive a huge cash injection to protect front line services
Looks like a win, win ,win,

Andy, a spokesperson from the North Harringay Residents Assoc, Friends of Ducketts Common & Friends of Harringay Passage (very powerful individual) said 'no' to that proposal and ... the council listened ... thank god for Harringay activists ... now over to the traffic survey ... 'my road has more traffic than yours!'

Oh no it's doesnt ! Mine has more than yours!!! And they're bigger and heavier . My whole terrace has moved 5foot west due to the vibrations . At this rate of movement I'll have to change my house number and post code. On the plus side I'll be in N8 in 20 years.

Better still I read that, to solve the argument over Haethrow and Gatwick they are demolishing all the buildings along Green Lanes from The Arena up to the Salisbury, and using Green Lanes as London's newest runway... Finsbury park will be used as the car park.

Typical lack of joined-up planning thinking that - just when all the shop fronts have been tarted up at vast public expense.

Oh - wait
