Air Source Heat Pump System
Has anyone installed an air source heat pump system in their home? (The one you get a £7,500 government grant for swapping with your gas central heating).
Very interested to hear from anyone who has installed these pumps or anyone who has decided against them. Any comments, positive or negative, very welcome.

An Air Source Heat Pump will only work to it's best if you have good insulation and tight windows and doors in your home. An ASHP will only provide a constant low temperature of heat. This may mean you will need to replace radiators to give more surface area. Basically, unless the fabric of your home is at a high level of insulation it will not cope well. Also, many people do not understand how to best use a heat pump in that they may turn the heat down or off at night and back up during the day. This makes the heat pump work very overtime and to a burnout level. Your house itself needs to become a "heat sink" and retain heat. If it doesn't, do not go for a heat pump.

I don’t have one myself (yet), currently have a combi boiler with underfloor heating in a solid wall Victorian house and very much agree about getting used to the different heating approach required - house is a much more pleasant environment with lower bills.
