While we wait for Haringey Council’s long-promised spring/summer plan to tackle restaurant emissions, residents are demanding more than promises — we need decisive action now.
There is some encouragement: our local Green councillor, Marc, met with council officers on Monday to push this issue forward. That’s a start. But for the hundreds of families breathing this air every day, progress cannot come slowly.
We. Need. Action. Now.
Nearly 100 local residents — and growing fast — have already joined a grassroots campaign calling for urgent, stronger intervention. If you care about cleaner air, healthier streets, and real accountability, message directly to get involved.
Love our restaurants. Hate the emissions. People over profit.
For years, residents have raised concerns while the problem was overlooked. So we took matters into our own hands and installed an independent air pollution monitor in our back garden on the Ladder side of Green Lanes (N4).
The findings are deeply concerning — and they align with data from the official Breathe London sensor on Pemberton Road. Together, the evidence points to a clear pattern:
This strongly suggests that restaurant cooking emissions are a major contributor to dangerous PM2.5 pollution levels in our neighbourhood.
This is not about gentrification. This is about public health.
PM2.5 pollution is linked to serious long-term health risks, including respiratory and cardiovascular disease. Residents deserve clean air, practical solutions, and a council willing to act.
The good news? Solutions already exist — and they are achievable. Cleaner filtration systems and stronger enforcement could dramatically reduce harmful emissions.
This campaign is growing because our health cannot wait. Join us. Raise your voice. Push for change. Because clean air is not optional — it’s a right.
