Do make the effort to attend the Friends of Finsbury Park AGM this evening and hear Jeremy Corbyn MP and others discussing the threats to Finsbury Park.

This important meeting could be critical to saving the Park from Haringey Council's commercialisation of this important local public amenity..

The Victorians, who founded the Park in 1869, meant it to be a People's Park. It is now in danger of becoming a commercial retail park.

Thanks for the reminder Gordon, I'll be there. I also hope that anyone interested in the future of our park and who can spare the time, will consider attending too.

Tris the meeting to which you were welcome to attend was the first I've attended and I'm told, also the best-attended ever. It was addressed by Islington's MP who shares many concerns of local residents.

Jeremy Corbyn lives close to the park and is Member of Parliament for Islington. I believe he is co-founder of the Friends and in his talk, he gave a history of both the Park and the Group. He is also a patron of the park.

Cllr. Tim Gallagher attended and issued an apology on behalf of his two SG colleagues (and three HY colleagues) who were attending their Group meeting. He said he was "representing Haringey" – a description soon commented on by Martin Ball, the leading member of the Friends of Down Lane Park in attendance. 

The meeting attracted residents from Hackney and Muswell Hill. A local student offered to help out with web matters.

Though I am one of the three Councillors for Highgate, I attended primarily as a frequent user of our park and as a concerned and long-time local resident of Stroud Green.

I understand that at a previous meeting of the Friends, just four turned up. Last night, on a near-freezing evening, at least 25 turned up, with ten now on the Management Committee, of whom I'm one.
