Many thanks

Never, ever buy a leasehold property.
You never own the property.
The freeholder retains ownership and you are merely a tenant from whom freeholders and managing agents can and do extort large sums of money, with little legal right to do so.
The law does little to protect you and is extremely inaccessible due to cost and complexity.
Disputes render you property unsaleable.
See Carlex website for details of the scams etc practised routinely to fleece leaseholders.
It is the norm not the exception sadly
Thank you for the warnings , food for thought

Bet you're glad you asked.

P.S. Moving to London? Don't drink the water and don't breathe the air.

There are downsides to buying (shares of) freehold too though, of course. If our neighbours ever default on their mortgage, for example, we're in trouble!

Our friends Tina And Spike lived there for years - they had to move out to Cambridge and still pine dreadfully for it. I remember it as quiet safe but not all that big ;) great for the shops.

I live in same road as Johnny - hi Johnny don't think I know you in our little cul de sac? Anyway, in the summer with all the windows open you get the odd teenager playing loud music, the odd shouting match. Apart from that it's quiet.
