Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

There appears to have been a nasty road accident outside The Beaconsfield. Looks like a pedestrian may have been hit by a bus.

Green Lanes is closed all around the area.

Does anyone know what happened? (traffic stationary and backing-up with people on diversion along Endymion Road).

Just on another point - you see what would happen here if the idea of a roundabout with no pedestrian phases were ever to replace the traffic lights..

Perhaps the pedestrian phases on the lights need to be extended with 'all ways red for 40 seconds' ..?
Bernie Grant M.P. haringey got elected partly on the promise that he would get the traffic lights on GL to follow the New York model of 'phasing' where all the lights are the same colour in sequence. This has the traffic calming effect where drivers don't try to 'beat the lights'. this was back in 1831.
May I add that riding a bicycle, scooter or driving a car down that stretch is awful, it's as if pedestrians don't give a damn. One of the first comments outsiders say to me is why don't pedestrians look where there going in London.

I hope this person is okay.
Last Sunday whilst waiting at lights on Camden (nightmare) Rd I watched a family walking along the footpath towards some tree surgeons busy at work. The tree surgeons had blocked the path so the mother wheeled her toddler in buggy out into the traffic waiting at the lights, intending to cross the road.

Next I heard a commotion caused by a cyclist coming down the outside of the traffic and ridng into the buggy. Mother had pushed the buggy out suddenly without looking. Luckily the cyclist managed to hit the brakes enough for there not to be a serious accident. All parties expressed shock, the cyclist a brief burst of anger as well, then all parties were on their way. All this was over in seconds but it might have been different. A momentary lapse of reason.
Pedestrians frequently step out into stationary traffic without looking - one of the many hazards cyclists need to look out for. It's annoying, and alarming when you have to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting someone who steps out without looking, but what makes it worse is that 9 times out of 10, you get no apology, and you will often get a harsh stare or worse as if it's your fault.
As far as I understand it (but check the local press) the accident happened at about 3.20pm. The weather was drizzly & a woman ran across the road near the Williamson Road junction / by the Beaconsfield pub.

I heard a helicopter at about 3.30 - 3.40 & the trains were going slowly past my house & sounding their horns.

At about 3.50pm I had a panicked call from my daughter on her way home from secondary school who had been caught up in the aftermath. She was on a W5 & because it had slowed / stopped on Endymion Rd she had got off to walk through the back way (Venetia Rd) with another friend. They saw the air ambulance land & it spooked them. They tried to get through the Police cordon - but were rightfully refused.

I called a fellow parent & they went up to see what was going on.

I had an appointment at my GP's @ 5pm & when I went along St Ann's Rd at 4.40 - 4.50pm the buses were already diverted - e.g. 29 bendy bus. I got to my appointment & back by 5.15 returning along St Ann's Road.

My daugher has since told me what she saw - a woman lying on the road. A double decker bus with the front windscreen cracked / smashed. Another double decker bus was involved - but this may now be just an urban legend. Lots of debris on the road.

My daugher has been really spooked as you can imagine - there will have been lots of kids Mums & Dads all moving at that point so who knows how much any of them saw perhaps we should ask / check just in case.
