A fave! I’ve always imagined that the described route was something like Lordship Rec to Turnpike Lane, then up to Ally Pally. And still accurate: “...the pale, exhaust-fumed park by Broadwater Farm or the grubby road that eventually leads to Enfield: turkish supermarket after chicken restaurant after spare car part shop...”
