A Romance With The Furniture Trade: Harris Lebus (A new local history book)

I am currently reading a fascinating and handsomely produced book about the history of a massive furniture factory that used to be on the site of the Ferry Lane Estate in Tottenham. Even though this is more Haringey than Harringay, it may be of interest to HoL members interested in local history slightly beyond the immediate area. For more info see link below

Cleaning out my shed yesterday and a small metal disc fell off the chest of drawers that is in there (I inherited it when we bought the house 30 years ago. The disc had Harris Lebus on it. Wondered about about the name and now I know.

Remember them Well. My Father worked there for many years

Big issue was that buildings was Massive, divided into small unites Which resulted in workers suffering dust issues

Which resulted in my father dying of Lung Cancer. Like many other long term workers

Understand it was of London's original largest Factories

I think they made Utility furniture after the war (during?) and we certainly had some in our house (Frobisher). Exceptionally well made. They were very good at curving laminated woods I recall.
