Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hello everyone,

This is my first posting on here so apologies if I make any terrible forum faux pas'.

Living on Burgoyne Road is by and large a joy but I have noticed that there seems to be a huge amount of dog poo. Everywhere. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there anything we can do about it?

Ideas on a post(card).....

yes, I live there too.

I identified one of the particular offenders last year and emailed the council. The reply was that they were already aware of that particular household due to other complaints. They stuck some "warning, your dog crapping might be caught on CCTV" signs up but that appears to be it (I'm not sure there is any CCTV on Burgoyne at all). That particular dog and owner have left the street now anyway.

I have seen a young man with a scary SBT cross dog letting his dog crap on the street this week and also a rather elderly man with a rather elderly little dog last week. In neither case did I intervene - I am not good at confrontation.

I think Burgoyne is used as a cut through from Green Lanes to Harringay station and over the bridge into Crouch End so gets a bit more foot traffic and more dogs, perhaps. The scary SBT cross certainly went over the railway bridge (crapped on that too) and into Crouch End.

If you can identify a particular culprit, then you can message the council anonymously via their website (report a problem) and provide some info. But with those just passing through, it is difficult to identify a pattern. You can again report general cleanliness issues to the council to come and clear away if there is a particular area of it but I guess they aren't going to nip over for every separate one.

What is SBT ? Spaniel / Border Terrier ?

I wish! I'm guessing Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Eve - you're not alone, it is something that drives a lot of people slightly crazy - both the fact that it happens and because is so hard to do anything about it. A few years back I had a long series of exchanges with the Council about what they were doing (in response to a big hoo ha being made about fines they would introduce) but I'm afraid it didn't result in anything.

Ultimately it is just really difficult to stop someone who doesn't give a * from letting their dog do precisely that on the pavement. There is even one person who routinely lets their dog do it right outside the gate to the Infant School on the passage - lovely!

I'd noticed that the chalk drawer was back, good on you.

The top left bit of Duckett Road used to be really bad but my neighbour (a dog owner) confronted one particular dog owner about it and it seems to have improved. He said he would chase after this guy with a dog poo bag and tell him to pick up after his dog! The dog is probably just walked elsewhere now and the problem has moved on (maybe to Burgoyne - sorry Eve!).

There's nothing like getting home and realising there's dog poo on the wheels of your buggy. Apart from realising your older child has run their scooter through some as well...

Looks like Gold for a British Dog is guaranteed in the Dog Poo Olympics. Hard to beat this sort of performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTH0pXZQ5I4
