Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Forget all those posts about people getting cards or money nicked from the cash machines on Green Lanes, here's a happy tale...

Back on the 1st of July 2008 not long after i'd moved to Harringay i was going by the Tesco's on Green Lanes at the St Anns corner and i went to the cash machine there and took out £20. I was with a friend and we were talking about something so i was distracted and after taking back my card we walked off without taking the money. I realized a bit later for some reason remembering after we'd walked on up Green Lanes and I looked in my wallet and had no money but figured it would be gone by then so didn't bother going back and just felt a bit silly.

Now 5 years 3 months later I receive a letter. Tesco Bank have been doing a review of their historic ATM withdrawls and have noticed my mistake. Apparently the machine sucks the money back in if you don't take it quick enough. They're giving me back the £20 as well as an extra £1.98 as a "good will" gesture. Woohoo!

That's hilarious! Good ol Tesco! Can't believe you get an extra £1.98.

£1.98 - the extent of Tesco good will....

The manager of a local Tesco noticed a tweet about the Haringey Winter Night Shelter and has donated a huge quantity of canned ( ie not perishable ) food for the homeless.

Amazing story!
And an extra £1.98!...every little helps!

 ... in Tesco's vouchers

And they throw away all that unsold food too, they've been telling us this week (to good causes), so they're ending multi-buys apparently. Quick Ant, get in there before it's too late!

On Saturday my other half and I were at Brent Cross Shopping Centre. Around 3 p.m. she used the HSBC ATM situated in a wall at a car park entrance next to Waitrose while I waited in the car. When she joined me she said she'd tried to take out £100 but had only received her card back. She'd waited a while but no money was dispensed and the ATM had not displayed a cancelled transaction message. I thought this was odd and went back to the machine with her as I thought there was a possibility someone may have attached something to it. The display still showed the dispensing cash message but there didn't appear to be anything different about the ATM. While we were standing there it suddenly dispensed the £100. Probably 7-8 minutes after she'd requested it. I doubt it would have been unnoticed to get sucked back in at Brent Cross. If we'd not gone back I doubt she'd have been able to convince her Bank that she'd not received the money...

I hope you've informed the bank of this.  A dodgy machine line that could cause some serious hardship to a lot of people.

Certainly made me smile after a few low days!
