Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Applications are now open for round three of the Mayor of London's Community Green Space Grants.

Do you want to create or improve a green space in our community, and improve our neighbourhood's access to nature? Do you want to make our entire neighbourhood greener? Or do you want to green one of our school playground to improve air quality and create space for natural play?

The Mayor's office is looking for projects that will contribute to making London greener and give Londoners the chance to get involved.

Does anyone have any great ideas around which we could base a submission? Just as importantly, is anyone willing to get involved on the ground in making it happen?

The Community Green Space grants offer funding between £5,000 and £50,000. For smaller projects, Groundwork's Our Space Award offers grants up to £5,000.

This year, there are additional funds from the Our Space Award for turning grey, hard landscaping areas, into greener spaces.

Applications close at 5pm on Monday 30 September 2019. Projects should take place between January and December 2020.

It'd be great to get some more green into Green Lanes, kerbside planters to link Ducketts to the park, encourage the residents above the shops to use them as a community garden and clean the air a fraction. I've been involved in something similar at the Boundary Estate in Shoreditch, been great to see locals using them. Need a community group and amenable council though to get funding, so may be a pipe dream for the next round.

Community groups aren't the problem; it's getting people to lead on these projects that's tough.

Can't offer to lead, but am an experienced fundraiser & would gladly give my time to write the application for something like this locally.

Ta Gus - there's a guy running something similar up in Noel Park with good results. I'll contact him on the weekend to get some advice on the best way to approach it in Haringey. Making it happen in Hackney was fairly straightfoward, hopefully will be here too.

Is that Luke & the Westbury nature reserve?

I used to work with him, so was involved when initial conversations were being had.

Great, I'll follow on Twitter - deleted my Facebook ages ago as it was a time sink - lemme know if I can get involved in any way

Have followed.

Hi Imji,

I have signed up to the mailing list and been on the Facebook page but there doesn't appear to be anything related to the Community Green Space grants. I am conscious that the deadline is fast approaching and a reasonable amount of work would need to take place to develop a proposal. I have been speaking to a few other Harringay residents who are all up for committing some time to this. Would you be able to PM me so we can discuss how best to take forward/ what Haringey Living's plans are so that there aren't multiple proposals going forward (if we manage to organise ourselves to submit one!)?

Anyone else interested in contributing to a proposal, PM me also.

Thanks!

I don't particularly have ideas for this, but just reiterating that I am happy to look at other's ideas, and contribute to whether something looks likely to be funded, and then help do the application.
