Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

It's not Harringay or Haringey related but worth a look if you're considering a day out of the 'hood. On Saturday three of us took a 30 minute train ride Reading (£12 return from Paddington with Network card) to visit an art exhibition in Reading Gaol. Website is here and suggests it's sold out but it's only sold out for online tickets - we were advised we could purchase on the door and we had no problem getting in at 2pm on Saturday. It's on until 29th October.

The gaol is a 7 minute walk from Reading Station.

You'll get to see Oscar Wilde's cell - the window was a quarter this size when he was here.

One of the art pieces includes the original door to Oscar's cell.

You get to wander around the wings, the art is displayed in cells.

I won't post any of the prisoner or warder graffitti as some of it is rude...

It's really worth a day out, and in addition to the tours there's various events, for example.

Eugene - this is interesting. The Oscar Wilde connection makes it doubly so - poor man! Your pics are great too.

Jails today are very controversial. I googled "who are in our jails" and there is loads of very good reading from the usual Express opinion to  this http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/12145649/Our-p....

I do not wish to start a big HoL dialogue on this subject as people have so many varied opinions, so I will leave this now with my thanks and best wishes to you.
