Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

An unusualy dressed character has been seen along Green Lanes in Harringay recently

There have been a few times lately when I've seen an exotically dressed man walking along Green Lanes. He's dressed in flowing black robes and a tall black ancient Egyptian style hat with a golden serpent on the front. He wears an ankh around his neck and carries a golden crop.

I saw him just near Disney on my way home tonight and thought it was about time I found out a little more about this local character.

In the course of a short conversation, I learned that his name is Heru. He's originally from St Lucia, but now lives just off Green Lanes. The clothes are, he told me, the regalia of a spiritual (not religious) group to which he belongs called the Aku Brotherhood Fellowship.

He gave a rather mystical answer when I asked what the belief system was about and I chose not to pursue it this time.  The clothes , he said, were indeed from ancient Egypt. "If you think about it", he explained, "all religious clothes come from Egypt originally - muslim headwear, nuns' headdress, everything."

I'm afraid that's about as far as I got. Apparently the group used to have a website but felt forced to take it down. He seemed reluctant to explain why, but he did say that they're hoping to have a new website during 2014. I've had a quick look on Google and nothing seems to come up about this group right now.

I did ask if I could take his picture but he explained that his group don't allow that.

If you've spoken with Heru or know anything more about the Aku Brotherhood Fellowship, please do let me know. (Or, Heru, if you read this, please do feel free to share more about your beliefs and so forth).

If you're thinking of commenting on this post, please be respectful.

He's right too. Even the myth of Jesus was a copy of the Egyptian god Horus.

Not only does Harringay transcend all sense of place by being the most ethnically diverse place on the planet it is now reaching out across the millennia. Maybe Heru is actually the poof we have been waiting for, that time travel exists!

And I'm sure Richard meant "Heru is actually the pRoof we have been waiting for . . . "

wonderful stuff Hugh. if he pops up i hope he likes the actual mummy case and sarcophagus i restored some years ago for the coach house w11 , it sold for £850,000 about ten years ago to a private collector!

I hope you were working on a percentage basis!

sadly no , well if 1/4 percent is considered;-)  i got to touch the mummy itself and the lady ,i cant recall her name but shes egyptologist for the british museum and on many egyptian history programmes, gave it full authentication. it was orange and crumbly ! ill dig out the evening standard article so i can put the mummiey name to the picture!;-)

I wonder what happened to our local pharoh?

Someone dressed like this was at one of the meetings to save the Marcus Garvey library.  He had two children with him and didn't seem to mind being photographed then.  Seen around Tottenham High Road too. Very dignified.

There must be a sect then!

Doesn't he wear it well!
