Hi Sharon, My best wishes for your new venture.

As you can imagine there have been many discussions about dumping and litter on Harringay online. As well as some initiatives to combat the problem. If you haven't seen it, you may want to search the back pages. I especially recommend Liz Ixer's pen portraits here.

I hope that as well as picking-up the stuff, you and your fellow volunteers will keep a keen eye open and share your observations and suggestions on HoL. Also with the powers-that-be in our Council. I'm sure you'll find the Dear Leader enthusiastic about new volunteering schemes - especially if it gives he an opportunity to use the term co-production  at an LGA conference.

Before you clear stuff, please bear in mind that there are some talented artists around, often well known for their street installations and interventions.  Some of their pieces may be highly sought after by international art lovers as investments.

The market for assisted found readymades is particularly buoyant at the moment.

Hi Alan,

Your words of support are much appreciated – thank you.

I spoke with Liz about our project in Haringey and she thoughtfully suggested we invite some local traders in addition residents.

The Harringay Green Lanes Ladder Traders Association, McDonalds, Sainsbury’s and various representatives of “The Powers That Be” have been informed about our initiative and invited to show their support.

Veolia will be providing equipment and are providing an additional litter collection for us on the day.

Various local residents groups have also been invited – it would be great to see people from all of these different groups get involved in the project.

If anyone is unable to attend Saturday’s launch, but would like to hear more about the Beautiful Boroughs Project or just get involved in holding local clean-up events anywhere in the borough – please do get in contact - we are here to help.

Oh and any local artists please feel free to come down and help yourself to reclaimed materials

– we will be separating recyclables.

Hope to see you there!

Sarah
