Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Figures published by the Pan-London Admissions Board last week show that 90 per cent of Haringey pupils starting primary school in September have been offered a place at one of their top three primary school choices, with more than 80% getting their first preference.

Haringey was above the London average of 78% of parents being offered a first choice place.

Pan London Admissions Board chair Helen Jenner said that co-ordinating admissions meant a fairer and more efficient system, but that no system could create places at schools that are already full. “London local authorities are working hard to try and ensure that they can offer ever child a school place, but with this surge in demand it is becoming increasingly difficult”.

Here's the link to London Councils' Press Release. It's based on research by that body which represents all 32 boroughs and the City of London.

OK, you fretting parents, aren't you glad you chose to live on the Ladder or its Haringey hinterland rather than in those deprived boroughs of Kensington & Chelsea or even school-famished tory Wandsworth?

Intriguing that on these figures Haringey did significantly BETTER than Islington. That is not the impression one would have had last year, from press coverage.

By the way I can confirm that Ashmount School is moving over the Christmas break - the old building is empty now- and will reopen on the Crouch Hill site, January 10th.

Consequently the reference point for admission for entry autumn 2013 will move, with the school. This does mean that it may be a possible choice for some people to whom it may have moved closer. (The school is moving ten minutes walk to the West, and a little South of where it was.)
