Hello all,

As some of you may already know, I am off to India for Xmas

I will be spending Xmas at an orphanage in Bangalore where I worked 3 years ago www.lovedalefoundation.org .

Jon and I have done quite a bit of fundraising for them and we’re great friends with the husband and wife who run the orphanage. They’re very clued in people (as you will see if you check out the website) and they’re committed to breaking the kids out of the poverty cycle by providing them with a full education. No child is allowed to leave the orphanage until they have reached a certain stage in school (I think its equivalent to our key stage 3).

When I was there last, there were 21 kids living at the orphanage. Now there are 31! As we are spending Xmas with them we want to take them Xmas presents. This is where you all come in! I want to send over a big box or two of fancy dress clothes for all the kids as a Xmas present. We want anything from hats, costume jewellery, silly glasses and capes to princess, cowboy, Tigger and spider man costumes. We want anything that’s silly and fun to wear. So if you have an old fancy dress box that is sitting collecting dust, please have a peek inside and see if there’s anything you’d be willing to part with.

The kids ages range from 2 to 15 so we need to accommodate all sizes. If you have anything at all, even if it’s just one item, it would be greatly appreciated. Please pass this email on to anyone you think might be able to help us out and put some huge smiles on faces (including mine) this Xmas.

I think I will have to ship the clothes rather than take in bags on the plane, although I’m not sure and will have to look into this. So, assuming that I will have to ship them over in time, it would be great if you could give me anything you have by mid October. I am willing to come and collect too.
Many thanks,
Katie

thanks birdy, much appreciated
Hi Sapphireblue - i've just unearthed a small collection of costumes and will email your friend about them.
Thanks for that - tell Katy that her friend's Mum put up her email on the site (or she won't know that nom de plume).. but its nice of you to take the trouble.

Hi Sapphireblue - I'd already emailed her by the time I read your post but I mentioned that a friend had posted her email regarding donations. I haven't heard from her, but it was only yesterday afternoon. I'll give it another day or three before recycling them...
Hi Kate

I think it's wonderful what you are doing. My son goes to Stationers Playgroup in Crouch End - I'll put a poster up there asking for parents to dig out their kids' old fancy dress outfits and see what we can come up with.

Best wishes

Suzy
