Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Any aficionados out there who want to recommend a particular shop? I've tried a few over the years but am looking for something really good as a gift. Thanks.

Yasar Halim has very good (and very more-ish) pistachio Turkish delight in glass jars in the bakery. And their rose and lemon flavours are very good too. Sold by weight and the packaging is just a cake box or paper bag but it is good stuff. I've also bought boxes of Turkish delight imported from Turkey at Turkish Food Market to give as gifts and have had no complaints! All much better in my opinion than the much more expensive versions of Turkish delight turned out by British brands.

Hot Nuts has some very good varieties and was recommended to me by a couple of Turkish traders as the best place to buy in Harringay.

Yep I agree with Hugh.

Hot nuts all the way for delights. The ones with pistachios are the best :) yumy yumy :)

Yes, I agree about Hot Nuts turkish delight and while you're there sample lots of their other goodies like dried fruit (best sultanas i've ever used in a Christmas cake), goji berries half the price of health food shops, chocolate covered stem ginger and, of course, their nuts! I love that shop.
Wow, thanks all! Sounds like Hot Nuts it is.
Have now tried the almond, pistachio and raspberry versions from Hot Nuts - all gorgeous. Thanks all for the tips.

I agree that Hot Nuts have excellent Turkish delight, particularly lemon and pistachio, but still recommend going to Istanbul where the newly refurbished Divan hotel continues to claim the 'best Turkish delight' honour. My tragedy is that I now have gout and one of the horrors is that nuts are forbidden, so devastating for one who has regularly enjoyed the pleasures of a £5 bag of mixed roasted not salted nuts from Hot Nuts since it opened. I know I'll weaken when I go back to Turkey for the 51st year in 2014.

if you like Turkish sweets i would definitely recommend favorite bakerz in lordship lane man them baklavas 10 out of 10, im Turkish  originally trust me i can eat at least 8-9 pieces in one sitting not too much sugar plenty of pistachio cant go wrong

thanks for the suggestion    I noted the name when I went to Lordship Lane earlier this week

Incidentally, the couple who run the Turkish arts/crafts shop in Crouch End were disappointed to find no Turkish food in the Taste of London festival last year and hope it will be included in 2014

Luckily there was plenty of choice at the Turkish Day in Trafalgar Square last Sunday    lots of food and music     I'm told arts & crafts will be included next year
