Campaign to open a new nice cafe on Green Lanes
Don't get me wrong - I love all the kebab shops, and antipilar cafe does good mezze - but wouldn't it be really great to have either a lovely,french patisserie like the one in newington green over here, or a nice, slightly upmarket chain like a giraffe cafe? i really feel like there is somewhere missing on green lanes - you have to go to crouch end, stokey or newington green for any lazy sunday brunches, or mid week treats for yummy mummies, or someone nice and relaxing to meet your friends. i want to collect enough support to show one of the managers of these sorts of places that there is the demand for it on green lanes. does anyone out there feel the same way as me? i moved to the area 8 months ago from highbury and miss the cafes most of all!

Well I went to see what all the ho-ha was about and purchased a coffee and a croisant, very nice indeed not too light and not too stodgy and served by a polite and happy young man.
Apparently the wife use to come here with friends and buggies as it was one of the few that wasn't smoked out before the ban.
Good recommendation, ta.

Did anyone notice that the Danube bakery is up for sale? And separately, the old ticket hall premises by Harringay Green Lanes station next to McDonalds are available to let for a new cafe. So maybe some cafe-and-croissant-related change is already on the way.

See links below for confirmation. You can also be nosy and see what their weekly takings are. This is interesting info for anyone idly musing about setting up their own Green Lanes business and wondering what the potential is.
If they turn over £5,500 per week, and if you assume three staff on duty for 80 hours per week paid at £5.73 per hour, plus employer costs, then there's nearly £2,000 of weekly staff costs. Over £600 per week on rent and rates. Add in the cost of ingredients, insurance and utility bills, and you wouldn't have much left for profit.
