Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This from the Hornsey & Crouch End Journal:

The two-tier ticket system endured by commuters travelling overground from stations like Alexandra Palace and Harringay must stop as soon as possible.

That's the call from Hornsey and Wood Green MP Lynne Featherstone, who last week blasted rail operator First Capital Connect for dragging its feet over extending Oyster Card facilities north of Finsbury Park station.

She likened needing separate tickets to travel in the same city to Soviet-style bureaucracy.

Other train operators including First Great Western and South West Trains have already committed to installing the Oyster pay-as-you-go system in under 12 months.

Ms Featherstone visited Alexandra Palace station with Oyster specialists Cubic, a principal partner in the consortium that runs the system. She said: "Local residents have had empty promise after empty promise - enough is enough. Needing separate tickets for travel in the same city is reminiscent of a Soviet bureaucracy not a world class city like London.

"I want First Capital Connect and TfL to accelerate discussions and reach agreement sooner rather than later. The people of Haringey deserve this service and I will be calling for talks with First Capital Connect."

A First Capital Connect spokesman replied: "We are working with TfL to implement Oyster pay as you go, and we hope to sign an agreement on this over the summer. We will then move onto the physical implementation of the equipment and technology throughout London. We are keen to achieve this as soon as possible.
