Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This from the Haringey Independent, 20th hMarch, 2008:

Labour MPs who didn't show up to vote for a Conservative motion to halt the post office closures have been accused of letting down their constituents.

The motion, debated in Parliament on Wednesday, failed by just 20 votes.

Shadow business secretary Alan Duncan said: "The hunt will now be on for all those Labour MPs who have pretended to support their local post office and then done a runner when they had a chance to make a real difference."

Tottenham MP David Lammy, who has been campaigning to save the post offices in his constituency, was one of the Labour MPs who did not show up for the vote.

A spokesperson for Mr Lammy said he had been called to a speaking engagement outside London but insisted he remained committed to opposing the closures in Tottenham.

Liberal Democrat Lynne Featherstone, MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, voted in favour of the motion.
