Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Apparently some roads in the Ladder have been experiencing random power cuts, along with parts of Wood Green High Street. Anyone know any more about this?

This story in the H&CEJ refers.

Yes, we've had two power cuts in the last week - one on the same night we moved in! There we are, with boxes everywhere, not knowing where anything is - and the lights go out leaving us with no power and no heating in a freezing cold house! Good times. Fortunately we were prepared for the second one, and had unearthed the candles and matches by the time it happened.

If anyone knows who to contact when there are power cuts, I'd love to know because I'll be the first to ring them next time it happens.
I noticed the Lion King on Seymour Road, and the grocery store next to Tesco were both without power one evening this week. Everywhere else seemed to have power though. Very odd!
Yes I think it is EDF that you contact. Their main switch board should put you through to 'faults'.

There have been several blips in the power supply over the last 2 weeks, about a second each time, enough to cause havoc for some heating systems which end up locking out.
Thanks very much, Matt!
:)
Has anybody had any problems over the last couple of days? We had about 5 power cuts through December and January and were assured by EDF that it was a known fault at the substation which would be fixed. However, after a couple of months of reletively normal supply, the lights went out yesterday morning for a couple of hours and then again sometime overnight. We have now been without electricity for at least 15 hours. The odd thing is the randomness. Sometimes it seems that we are the only house on the street to have problems.
Hi Caroline,

Are you on Hewitt? There have been rolling power cuts towards the Green Lanes end since Sunday. The longest we've had it for at a stretch on has been I think about 5 hours last night, which was a real treat as we got to have showers, make dinner and charge our phones ... before everything went dark again.

If it goes on much longer we should think about some kind of compensation claim. I work mostly from home and have had huge headaches trying to meet deadlines and send email over the past few days. Ringing up EDF is a real lottery, too - sometimes you get helpful people and other times you get ones who tell you that they certainly won't be rushing out engineers to fix the problem 'just because a few people are inconvenienced'.
I passed some men at a hole in the road outside Hanes at the bottom of Hewitt yesterday lunchtime. They said that 5 .......um........somethings had gone which was affecting roughly alternate houses in the bottom half of Hewitt. They had high hopes of fixing it yesterday. Hope for your sake they did.
Isn't this the answer to the recent ones? Problems at Sizewell B apparently:

Yes, I'm on Hewitt. Our electricity finally came back on at 6.30 last night and, so far as I know it is still on although I'm prepared for all eventualities.
Unfortunately I don't think that our problems are linked to the Sizewell B led blackout yesterday. Shortly after the lights came back on, an engineer rang us (I'm afraid that I had become a little shouty with EDF) and said that there were ongoing problems with the substation at Turnpike Lane. This isn't the first time that I have heard of problems at the substation which is, apparently, very difficult to access and then difficult to fix as it sits directly above the tube line.
I'm thinking that I need to keep records of the power cuts from now on - it isn't so bad in the summer, but I'd quite like some reassurance that the problem will be fixed by the time it gets dark and cold again .....
Twice tonight we've had sub second power cuts up the top of the ladder. Anyone else notice them?
I noticed light flicker once; "a sub-second power cut", is that what it was.
