Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

2nd and 3rd shooting related incident at Turnpike Lane in 2 weeks

Last Thursday saw another man shot outside Turnpike Lane station - www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/turnpike-lane-shooting-man-shot-21086...

- after someone was left fighting for life only a week before - www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/turnpike-lane-shooting-teen-shot-lond...

Today an armed undercover police office was involved in an incident that saw one vehicle driving repeatedly into another - @MPSHaringey https://t.co/W46CRZJ4nl

The obvious question is how long does go on for?

Does someone need to be killed?

Here is Photo from today. Apparently the occupants of the 4x4 originally began pursuing the occupants of the other car on foot on green lanes before continuing the chase via car before being intercepted by armed police with a head on collision at the junction. The occupants escaped and the driver of the car being chased denied knowing his persecutors, despite them all being Romanians.

As we all know, all Romanians know each other

I saw the aftermath of this incident rather earlier - long before dark and was wondering.  It was obviously something criminal rather than a simple accident, especially with the very shiny black SUV facing the wrong way on the wrong side of the road and rammed by the other black vehicle, all surrounded by police SUV's.  Also a smashed up normal car a few metres up the High Road.  No sign of any vehicle owners or ambulances but if they all scarpered, that would explain it.

No fun at all for anyone minding their own business trying to get anywhere in that area.  Traffic an absolute mess with police directing everything down Westbury Ave as northbound High Road blocked.  Luckily access down Turnpike Lane was OK.

The very shiny black SUV was the undercover police firearms unit which intercepted the assailants grey vehicle.

Whether the occupants were Romanian or not is irrelevant,  (I’m not English either) But it’s obvious these guys knew each other and it was some kind of dispute that began in harringay near MC Donald’s and ended abruptly at Turnpike Lane.... no need to get your pants in a twist.

and I know for a fact most people on the Costa del sol  involved in crime do know each other, so your point is a mute one.

I’m not going to get in an online argument, and I didn’t mean to offend anyone, however the reason I mentioned the nationality is that the police suggested both parties were suspected Romanian travellers.... and also deduced that it was highly likely that they knew each other... i tend to agree with their theory, however will leave to the detectives to find out the truth!  I hope you are now satisfied with my more detailed account of the incident.!

Hi Alex thanks for the explanation, I cycled past the scene @ 7.00 and I was so perplexed how it could have happened that I dismounted outside the station.  I then heard a group of people discussing and one of them mentioned that one of the cars was a police car, albeit no markings.    Your explanation fills in the gaps, and the point is this is major reckless criminal / gangster behaviour happening with no regard to normal citizens.  I'm glad the police nipped it in the bud, but jwhat the hell is happening round here, it feels like it's got out of control?  Major incidents on a weekly basis.  I don't believe it's not all connected?????

As someone who comes from an East-european country, and grew up in a small town with a substantial Roma presence I can't say I am surprised.

I vividly recall how as soon as the 'iron curtain' dropped many of them were the first  to travel to western Europe, and proceeded to remit substantial sums of money (I know this because a family member worked in the local money order branch) back home. Eye-watering sums. Way before any Eastern European countries were part of the EU or labour market.

In a matter of years the local Roma neighbourhood transformed and a number of palace-like houses were built, complete with large parking lots of expensive vehicles. One can only speculate about the source such instant riches, but majority of the speculation centered on organised crime.

Obviously there is a wider concern about human rights and racism directed at Roma communities that is perfectly valid.  As any minority that has been the subject of systemic discrimination (such as what happened during Communism in Eastern Europe), are permanently marginalised and sort of excluded from teh educational system/labour market they do deal in criminal activities. These can be a lot easier in an environment where there is more wealth to go around, more and better enforced risk protection (e.g. contents insurance) and what they perceive to be a rather less skeptical average person who is the ideal crime target.

I was quite surprised to encounter such a thriving population in our neighborhood - the benches across from Dogtas are a gathering spot for fair few of them on weekend mornings (though I can't comment on their motivation or anything else for that matter...)
