Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A town council has disbanded after members staged a mass walkout in protest at being constantly criticised by a lone internet blogger.

Eleven of the 15 members on Somerton Town Council, in Somerset, resigned after being subjected to three years of online abuse.

ALSO covered by the Beeb.

I see in the photo with the Daily Mail story, the council-critic is tooled up with a powerful late-model iMac. Local Government should ban these machines as they can be dangerous in the right hands.

How fortunate we are in Haringey, not to have clowns, jackasses and hypocrites on the council.

.
I'm wondering if this is the full story. Another council I know of had their Chief Exec attacked mercilessly by a blogger and they were understandably concerned. However, when they did some analysis, they found that only three people ever read it. I wonder how many people read this guy's blog?

So what's the solution in a situation like this?
And here's more from The Guardian. Sound from this like there was more going on here than a grumpy blog.
Shame on HoL, on the BBC, and even the Daily Mail for not including a link to Niall Connolly's Muck and Brass blog.

A fascinating read. Not least because the blog reports that it brought the Connollys "threats, violence, abuse, smashed windows and burning cars".

One former councillor took a novel approach to accountability; cutting up a questionnaire from Mr Connolly into strips and posting it back anonymously. It also seems there were some concerns:
"regarding the Town Council's continuing efforts to resist the Freedom of Information Act and the Town Clerk was unable to explain exactly why this peculiar course of action had been taken."

Though of course, this is one issue on which I agree completely with Clive Carter. Things are completely different on our own dear Council.
HoL is we, you are we. So we did include it. Thankwe.
Alan: the BBC story did include the link to the fearless council-fighter. It appears to the right of the main story, under "RELATED INTERNET LINKS" (which normally accompanies all the BBC-news web stories) and the related links are:

Somerset Town Council
Muck&Brass Blog (worth a look for today's post)
South Somerset District Council

They seem to have more interesting councillors down that way. There was one in near by Devon who sadly had to give up her seat (for the more liberal-minded).

.
Dead right, Clive. Apologies for my carelessness.

I'm be glad though if, between us, we can send more people to visit Niall Connolly's blog.
" The row started shortly after Mr Connolly moved to Somerton with his wife, who does not want to be named, in 2006. "

I can reveal, exclusively to HOL, that she is called Mrs Connolly.
