Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I Know it's Saturday night and you've all got better things to do, but I nearly forgot to get this in before midnight...

Today is the 146th Anniversary of an event that was very important for London and in the long term for Harringay as well ... Any ideas of what it was?

A small clue... the initials J.B. and Highgate...

Highgate has nowt to do with the event..
Anything to do with the transport system? A lot of the basics for London's transport network were being laid down around that time.
First underground railway line in London - Paddington to Farringdon Street via Kings Cross, opened 10 Jan 1863 with steam engines.

But JB ? John Betjeman? and Highgate ?
Betjeman was born near Highgate and did commentary for a programme called " Metroland" about how the Metropolitan line opened up the suburbs.
Well done John D..!! correct, correct & correct..

I have to confess that the quiz was a sort of plug for my blog, where I wrote something on just this subject yesterday !!
Nice blog - love the pic of No 12
Thanks Steve - always nice to learn a little more on London trivia (though I don't mean the subject matter.....or the author of the blog is trivial!!).

And well done John - I could feel you agonising over the challenge.
