Grass Roots is a monthly event which is wholeheartedly committed to championing emerging UK-based jazz talent. While our home in Peckham is in the process of moving to a new location, we're taking the show on the road and setting up camp at Karamel in Wood Green.
For the month of September, we will warmly welcome to the stage tenor saxophonist and BBC Young Jazz Musician Of The Year 2024 finalist George Johnson. Alongside his quartet, he will be stirring up a captivating concoction of original material and reworkings of his most cherished compositions.
Drawing from his jazz roots and groove sensibilities, his multi-faceted repertoire also comprises Latin, soul, art rock and hip-hop. George's stellar supporting cast includes King David Ike-Elechi on drums, Scottie Thompson on keys and Zaki Osahn on double bass. Expect to be entertained by a youthful jazz outfit with a really rounded and mature sound.
