Power Flush Central Heating

Hi Everyone,

We were recommended by British Gas to have a Power Flush on our central heating system, as we have recently had issues with the boiler. The engineer said 'we had a lot of sludge that needed to be removed'. The price they quote is £780 which is almost double the quotes I googled. However, they state that the next one would be 'free of charge' (generally every 10 years).

Has anybody ever had this run through their system as I have been warned that it is very powerful and can cause leaks in the radiator. Also, a number of people I have asked have never heard of it!

You would prob get a more honest answer. Not sure BG have your best interests!
Try Michael Cosgrove have used him before.

I terminated my relationship with BG for good soon after they recommended a power flush. In the first place they quoted £1600 for flushing the whole 20 radiator system in two days. I declined this offer and did it myself with the help of a handyman in one day after hiring the necessary machine (less than £200 in total).
In the second place this flushing did not cure the original problem which turned to be a blocked pipe right by the hot water cylinder. BG's finest had not diagnosed this before recommending a very expensive procedure even though they were responsible under contract for maintenance of my system. In my view BG are capable of dealing only with recently installed simple systems.

I agree with Dick BG are not great when it comes to complicated things. My biller kept breaking downs and they must have changed about 10 parts on ten different occasions and it still didn't remedy the problem. Got a local plumber in and her fixed it in 5 minutes.

We've had ours done by a local guy that we use for everything - he's a plumber but has become more like our family friend/general handyman! I can't remember the price but it wasn't even half that if I recall. It's not caused any problems that we know of...!? The heating is incredibly powerful now though - we've had to turn all the radiators onto low or it's like the Sahara desert even in winter!
