Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The park was in an absolute mess yesterday. Syringes in the bushes and litter everywhere.
I have put through a complaint to Haringey council. Hoping they take action and keep it cleaner.
Has anyone else noticed the state of it recently?

Unfair to blame the Council - they don't drop the syringes or litter. Any time I have notified them ( not complained ) they have acted the same day.

Complained prob a harsh word, notified. Hopfully they action quickly

When I called the Council and mentioned syringes they promised they would be cleared within four hours. I didn't check but they were certainly gone the next day.

To be fair it is our park to a degree and while not optimal I often pick litter where it is safe to do so and bin it rather than wait in the hope the council will get to it before some kid gets hurt etc
It is a bit of a shame that people feel it is acceptable to litter in a kids play area, though I guess if you are sticking a needle in your arm litter is the last thin on your mind.
Yes I agree Justin. However yest I would have spent the entire time there picking up rubbish not to mention used condoms as well as the syringes.

In the mid-90s, the old playground in Ducketts Common always had syringes lying around. Things have improved tremendously since then so I hope we aren't sliding back to the bad old days.

Recently quute a few local houses have been let to Camden and other inner London Health Authorities to house heroin and crack addicts. Maybe the Council could assess and monitor the effects of this. It is purely a money saving exercise.

Does this mean that Haringay has surplus housing?

Hi Danni,  Thank you for your post and your concern about the park.  As part of the Friends of Fairland Park group its really helpful to have others also keeping an eye out on the park and reporting issues to the council.  I hope they respond and clean the hazardous litter asap.  If you would like to come along to a Friends of Fairland Park meeting please do let me know and I will let you know the date and time. We focus on community events to enable as many people to enjoy the park as possible and also try to ensure the council continues its duty to keep the park safe, clean and with complete play equipment and it would be great to have new members ;-)  Any support park users can give in picking up (safe) litter is appreciated by our whole community (Thanks Justin!).  Fingers crossed Haringey provide a speedy response to your report.  Many thanks, Anna

Hi Anna - would love to come to a meeting. Please pm me with the details. Thank you.
