Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Bathe in the new bright LED street lights of Hampden Rd next time your passing through. Stand under one and you could be forgiven for thinking you're on the set of the film Close Encounters of the Third Kind, just don't look up for you'll be blinded by the light (rather than beamed up).

Seriously though these lights are awful!!

Coming back from a night out during yesterday evening's fog the light was refracting so much with the moisture in the air that the street looked even more bizarre, like walking onto a stage set. Really unpleasant! The rating on these LEDs is definitely over-rated.

I'm totally 100% into reducing the energy costs! My only thing is I think they are too bright. I now get a harsh blue white glow coming through my lounge curtains.

It would be great if they could turn the brightness down a little bit more...
What would be cool is if they could lower the brightness later on in the evening, like after 11pm.

Don't know if this has been mentioned already as I've not read the replies - but I asked the council what can we do if we find the new street light too bright - they said  we can ask for a shroud type cover to be put on which dims it - said they would fit in about 3 days time if we requested it.

I just got a phone call from them saying the same thing.

I do love Haringey Council, best council I've lived within.

who do we have to contact at the council to get this shroud cover fixed?

I submitted the 'report it' form:

Street lights

Report a problem with street lights, lit signs or bollards.

Just done the same. Will see what happens ... noting Paul's comment below

The number I called was 0208 489 1335, but you can probably request it online as well.

Great. Thanks a lot
Hi all,

Nothing has happened to the lamp that I spoke to the council about yet (10 days ago I think).

I've texted the contractor who called me and I have asked for an update.

I'll let you know what comes back.

Cheers,

Paul

According to the Council's twitter page you can request a shield by emailing frontline@haringey.gov.uk

Has anyone had one fitted yet?

Nothing yet. I need to chase them. They were supposed to fit them around a month ago according to their feedback.

Pretty rubbish service...
