Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Secondary admissions

Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on secondary schools in the area? Am applying at the end of the month for my daughter. Grieg City, Heartlands and Hornsey School for Girls are the realistic options. I've looked at them all but would appreciate the thoughts of anyone whose children attend those schools. Thanks!

Interesting discussion - I hadn't considered Grieg for some reason, but I'm going to take a proper look at it before the deadline now.

Hi Edel. Have a look on the website for the date of the final open morning and if that doesn't work for you the Vice Principal who came to our primary said to call the school and arrange a time. Check out the lovely sailing boat in the front!!

Anyone out there able to give me a clue to see where to look for borough wide GCSE results for 2015 by school? Also, it would be useful to see the Value Added data that should be available.

I have tried looking but cannot find it anywhere, including the Haringey web site... Am I missing a trick?

2015 data will not be published until early next Spring. You can get data from school websites but not all schools will publish this data. You can find comparative data for previous years on dfe website/ data dashboard ( which will also show you value added data)

Not sure about value added data being on the individual school websites but the 2015 gcse results certainly are. And the value added info is in the heartlands prospectus (gcse grades a to C average but value added impressive!)

Thanks, I am not being a muppet after all. I do sometimes wonder what century we live in that data that is available in mid August one year is not collated and publically available until up to 6 months later and the next year... How hard can it be to call round the dozen plus schools in the borough- even if the data must be described a provisional to account for appeals and other post wash up issues!!!

I did see the article Alan pointed to but it does not really say much of any detail. I notice that Pravda also has a similar article on A-Levels on the preceding pages with the results from the various 6th forms set out for us all to see...

Changes in the GCSE reporting possibly means that Haringey are being a little reticent about showing the collated data for 2015.  I also think there may have been a lot of challenges from schools around marking. I think overall the data for 2015 will show a borough wide drop in English/Maths A-C because (I think) schools have to report now on the first sitting of the exams.  (Schools used to be able to put kids in for exams in November - and then if they failed resit in May...)

But Hornsey haven't.  But Hornsey does have the breakdown of the individual subjects results for GCSE for 2014 which I think is interesting. And their overall expected progress is very good.

but it doesn't give you the 5 A-C including Maths/English which is the standard marker. That's the result that will have taken a hit in lots of local schools.

Park View's has dropped from 54% inc English/Maths to 42%. Purely because of the way the government want the data reported. I suspect other schools will show a similar drop.

p.s.  I don't think you should choose a school purely on statistics btw - it's just one consideration, alongside actually going along and seeing the schools, talking to kids in the schools etc

For example I went to see Parkview this morning and was quite impressed.  They have a strong ethos, great music and drama department, smaller class sizes for teaching English/Maths - they seem to have all the marks of a school that is wanting to do well.

The open events are useful because you get a look at the potential cohort that your child will have at the school.
