Nominations Open for Education Awards

Haringey’s annual celebration of success in education, the Outstanding for All Awards, are back.

Nominations for the 2014 awards opened this week, with residents encouraged to put forward the students, teachers, schools and community groups they believe deserve recognition in one of 10 award categories.

The Outstanding for All awards recognise and champion the most inspiring examples of teaching and learning in the borough, from excelling students to tireless teachers.

And with GCSE and A-level results surpassing national averages yet again, and Key stage One and Two performance showing continued improvement, there’s been no shortage of achievements to celebrate this year.  

Among the winners at last year’s inaugural awards were Shirley Welton of St James’ Pre-School, whose dedication to early years education was acknowledged; and Risley Avenue Primary pupil Selin Beyzat whose ability to overcome blindness and limited English was described as “an inspiration”.

This year the Lifetime Achievement award will be given in memory of former Woodside Cllr Pat Egan, who sadly passed away in July.

Nominations will remain open until 31 October, with the awards ceremony taking place at Alexandra Palace on the 9th of December.

Cllr Ann Waters, Cabinet Member for Children and Families said:

“The Outstanding for All awards are a fantastic showcase of all that’s good about education in Haringey.

They remind us just how much we have to be proud of in this borough and I’d urge anybody who knows an exceptional teacher, student or community group to take this opportunity to nominate them and see their achievements acknowledged.”

School Mentor Award

Recognising an outstanding student who has worked tirelessly to support and make a real difference for their peers and their school as a whole. A young person who is looked up to by other students.

Unsung Youth Award

A student who has made a valuable contribution to the wider community in Haringey – by volunteering, fundraising, building bridges or championing community achievements.

Overcoming Adversity Award

To recognise a student who has overcome a personal challenge and achieved success at school. 

Achievement in the Arts Award

To recognise a young person or group excelling in an art form; including visual arts, the performing arts or music.

Achievement in Sport or Physical Activity

Recognising individual, team or school achievement in a sport or outdoor activity demonstrating sportsmanship and commitment.

Celebrating Diversity Award

For a school, individual or project demonstrating outstanding commitment to celebrating diversity.

Supporting Sustainability Award
For a school or project which is successfully meeting the challenge of educating responsible citizens including commitment to healthy living, environmental awareness and community involvement and citizenship.

Contribution to Early Years

For the early years practitioner or provider that has delivered outstanding services for pre school age children.

Community Organisation Award 
For a community organisation with links to a Haringey school that has made an outstanding contribution to the development and ongoing success of the school.

The Councillor Egan Lifetime Achievement Award 
Recognising the exceptional leadership of an individual in the field of education in Haringey.
