I take it that they are not amenable to toning it down if asked. If not you can call the council Noise Control Team. They are no longer 24/7 but ring them to ask for advice, you can ask them to log the call (this can be used in the future if you need to show how often it is happening) or you can ask them to come out to monitor the noise, the process is confidential.

Thanks Maggie.

I have used them before they are pretty good will log the noise time & date with them maybe today. But I need to find out from the estate agents who owns the property as it has just been bought. The culprits think it's a student campus, swearing & shouting inside & outside the property. It's dreadful.

I've had some success with the garden hose.  Proceed however with caution. You might just as well get your teeth kicked in.

Sadly Council Noise Control don't work 24/7 any more, but you should contact them to log the complaint and ask for advice. It it's in the street the police might help, too — if there's lots of swearing and aggro you could reasonably complain saying you thought it was a fight.

Another option is to ask them politely to turn it down, if that doesn't work, get up about an hour after the music/noise normally stops and ring their doorbell/intercom and ask how they feel about being woken by their neighbours. Repeat every 40 minutes or so until they get the hint. Though as markb says, if you think there's a possibility of violence, just ring the bell and scarper.

Thanks JP only other option is to make my property into 2 flats and make some money long term. I guess I won't need to vet any tenants as it seems they can do what they want.

Bro make room I'm out of here.

The council has a policy that prohibits conversion of houses into flats if 20% of houses in the street have been converted already, or is part of a restricted conversion area, this includes the Ladder.

The previous owner of where I live was denied permission to convert on that basis.

How do you find out if a street has more than 20%? Is it just a case of counting bells?

I really would prefer to stay, love it here for 40yrs. Properties both sides were made into flats some years back and were used as emergency housing a few occasions with most of those tenants not giving a damn about noise. But I'm glad actually that conversions are not easy to get. Plan b to find so I can have some peace

It's all part of the vibrant society that people love so much ( as long as it's not next door ).

maybe the German way re EU might come into force IF we stay in for the next 50 yrs.

Hi, where are you? We've got a similar problem with the neighbours behind us. They were out I the garden screaming and shouting until gone 0300 this morning.

i am in a big old house in cavendish road...
