Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

An item at tonight's Council Cabinet meeting has thrown into question the future survival of Haringey's two warehouse districts and the artistic communities who live in them.

Both the Harringay Warehouse District and the Fountayne Road community now face an uncertain future following the publication of a Haringey Council report, "Tackling Unauthorised Living in Industrial Areas". (Report attached)

The report, which was discussed at the full cabinet of the Council today, recommends a two-year project costing £600,000 which will seek to deal with "the growing problem of unauthorised residential and live work uses in and around (the) Industrial Sites" in Haringey. The recommended process is "to establish a special multi-disciplinary team to fully investigate and address the problem through a combination of regulation, improvement, enforcement and, where necessary, prosecution".

The alarm bells were ringing for me since earlier in the week I had discovered that these areas are earmarked as being amongst those that will "will accommodate the majority of development in the borough over the next 20 years".

In Facebook and Twitter conversations this afternoon, warehouse residents shared their fears that the vibrancy their communities bring to the borough will be overlooked and their communities sanitised and destroyed.

In response to my Twitter requests to Council Leader Claire Kober this evening to protect these communities, Cllr Kober sought to offer some reassurance:

@harringayonline some people in unacceptable conditions. My concern is for safe, decent properties. No intention to undermine communities

@harringayonline no intention to damage what's good. Priority is to go after rogue landlords just as we do elsewhere in borough

When I asked if she would ensure that warehouse residents will be involved, the Council Leader replied:

@harringayonline don't see any problem involving residents. Will ask officers to consider how best to achieve

I very much hope that the approach the Council takes in this project will support these communities rather than beginning the process of whittling them away.

with respect, jaqueline, the omega works are an eye sore! i walk past there most days and its a tip, last week your tenants were pushing each other around in sainsburys trollys and filming themselves doing so ( hilarious!), infact you have quite a collection there of trolleys. never mind, perhaps the 'vibrant community ' are going to make a sculpture out of them for the community. im still stunned by the lack of regard you show for the wider community, in particlar those who live directly opposite

Dear Sharon
I only have 3 Units at Omega Works , how do you know they were allegedly my Tenants ?

All my Tenant's bar 2 have day time jobs that start at their respective work places at 9 am Monday to Friday .

I reiterate that the yard is not mine , and unfortunately I have no jurisdiction over it . If you have issues with rubbish you need to address these matters to the management of the other 22 Units at Omega Works , email David Meir dm@noblegift.co.uk and Mike Lock mike@topfling.co.uk

I reiterate , that I have a contract with Veolia to collect the refuse for Units 10A-D .

How do you feel about the large amount of rubbish in the space next to the grocery shop on Hermitage Rd .

Has anyone complained about this on HOL .

I have spent over a decade complaining about fly tipping and general refuse at Omega Works .

The Council or not interested in providing legally paid for refuse collection .

The managing agents at Omega Works for the rest of the site don't seem to care either .

I am on the whole ignored by both Parties responsible .

my error Jaqueline, i had mis read which parts of omega you own. the fact remains though that the behaviour of a few will reflect on all involved with omega and that as a whole it remains an eye sore, the responsibility for that cant fall on your other neighbours on hermitage. the disrespect you have shown for one of them, here on hol is distasteful.

Oh Dear !! Here we go again, threatening every one with legal action !!

Spreading malicious rumours ? I think not

Get real and face up to the fact that you are the one in the wrong here.

This is a reply to all. I am in regular contact with Cllr Joe Goldberg, I have suffered long enough with the noise. I thank my neighbours for being on my side.. I have complained to the noise abatement officers - I can and will(when I have time ) copy and paste all correspondence from Cllr Goldberg and David lammy's pa I have witnesses and family who have seen/heard suffered abuse and noise from tenants ( be they past or present ) forgive me if I want to be able to get to sleep at night for fear of regularly being woken up by noise coming from the warehouses.
Dear Sharon

I have taken action every time Jenny has contacted me by text or email , as can be evidenced by emails to all parties concerned .

I cannot be held responsible for Majorlink's Tenants , it is disrespectful to assume that I am the sole party to blame .Jenny has had the contact details for Majorlink for a very long time .

I reserve the right to my privacy as well. To receive barrages of abusive ,phone calls, texts and emails in the middle of the night is equally unsettling , especially as , Majorlink are nearly always responsible .

However my Leaseholder did have a party last year, without my consent , he had his Lease revoked .
If you , or anyone else would like full contact details for Majorlink , then please ask me and I will repost .

MAjor link are not nearly always responisble, The left hand sids have been responsible more often than major link ..

Please supply documented evidence of your complaints against any of my Tenant's Jenny . Apparently you have photographic evidence and email records of your numerous complaints .

I have only received a couple of notifications from Derek Peace Noise Control Officer, relating to any noise pollution issues relating to my Unit's at Omega .

You state that you have been threatened by my Tenant's . To date you have emailed me and texted on numerous occasions when you have stated that activities at Omega Works have caused you distress and nuisance , why have you forgotten to state that you were threatened ?

This is clearly a matter for the Police , have you reported these incidents and if so can you provide an incident CAD # ?

I asked one of my Tenant's , to apologise to you after the unauthorised Party on my roof last year in August , the Tenant in question was threatened by you actually ' you better watch your door' .

This is harassment ?

There has not been any incident relating to noise emanating from my Units 10B-D , since that date last August , as all Tenant's within those Unit's are aware that their respective Lease's will be revoked .

It is sad indeed , that you continually refer to past events and refuse to work with the residents at Omega Works to find a solution .

The legality of Planning has nothing to do with your complaints.

Jaqueline,

The tenant in question threatened me when i questioned him of the all night/morning rave - Plus he came back with "But we are artists???!!"

Basically YOU are in the wrong and it is sad indeed to think that this is everyone elses fault when it is yours.  Not the councils, not mine, but yours..

Jacqueline. I have been here since 1999 thank you .

Refuse Collection Issues at Omega Works 167 Hermitage Rd N41LZ.
Council Tax Payers right's .

Dear Ms Kober

As you are aware my refuse contract for 10A-D Omega Works is for Veolia . I have 1x recyclable waste bin and 1x general waste , my bins are located on the left hand side of the gates into Omega Works from the street view .

The only other receptacles for refuse , is as photographic evidence provided, clearly indicates are provided by Simply Waste .

There is 1 other black wheelie bin with Haringey Council's name printed clearly printed in white lettering on the front of it , this bin has not been emptied for 4 years ?

Veolia the contractor , I believe , to be responsible for collecting refuse from Council Tax Rate Payer's, on the Omega Work's site , have failed to provide any Tenant's with bins or refuse sacks for general waste or recycling .

The numerous complaint's from adjacent resident's in Hermitage Rd , are therefore the sole responsibility of the Council and their various employees .

Tenant's were told by Veolia to put their refuse in green recycling containers on the pavement outside Omega Works, on Thursday mornings , by Veolia , as they stated that they did not have permission to enter the yard at Omega Works, due to it being private land .

A refuse collector employed directly by Veolia , today told me that his manager had told him not to collect any recycling from Omega Works and that there was no instructions from Veolia to collect any general waste either .

Festus Akinboyewa has continually told me verbally and in writing , that he does not have access to the names of Council Tax paying residents at Omega Works , despite the fact that the Council Tax / Business Rates Department at Haringey have this information. He has stated that he cannot resolve refuse issues at Omega Works until he has this information .

All my attempts to find out which Unit's at Omega Works are registered for Council Tax and Business Rates has been denied , under The Data Protection Act , by Haringey employees .

Haringey Council has this information , and therefore is being decisive by withholding this knowledge .

The result has created animosity from residents opposite Omega Works , and further distress to Tenant's at Omega Works and their further legal right's to Peaceful and Quiet Enjoyment .

Haringey have a legal responsibility to collect and dispose of rubbish and recycling on behalf of any Tenant paying Council Tax .

Haringey further have a legal responsibility to collect recycling under a direct Government Directive .

Omega Works urgently requires , at least 10 general waste bins , and 10 recycling bins . Despite requests to Festus Akinboyewa , directly from me for over 4 years , to date.
No bins have been delivered , the current excuse is that there is not enough space to house them.

I formally request that this matter is dealt with swiftly by Haringey Council staff and Veolia, to limit any further distress to residents directly opposite Veolia , particularly Jenny Long , who has spent much of her personal time writing complaints to Cllr Joe Goldberg , MP David Lammy , Festus Akinboyewa and yourself .

I have also had to spend a considerable amount of my time and resources, relating to this matter since the main area was sold by HK Furniture .

Yours sincerely

Jacqueline Hancher
