Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The new Crouch End Arts venue ARTHOUSE is scheduled for opening in mid-January.

It will have two art event spaces, a theatre and a cinema, together with a cafe/bar.

The organisers say that the theatre will showcase a wide range of live performance from children’s puppet shows to experimental theatre and popular productions, both in house and touring.

The two cinema screens will show a mix of mainstream, international and foreign films.

There will be seasons of work by our own local residents, including actors, musicians, directors and writers, who will lead performances with Q&A sessions.

The café will provide visitors with fresh food and snacks from its own deli, sourced as far as possible from local food producers and cooks.

For the art buff amongst you, ARTHOUSE is launching  a membership scheme to encourage you to visit on a regular basis.

Membership will include in-house discounts at  ARTHOUSE and the ArtHouse Deli, priority booking, free tickets and "loads of other advantages and discounts"

Programming plans are under with monthly film events, post-screening discussions in the mezzanine bar, silent films & live accompaniment, late night cult films, dress up sing-a-long movies, Cine Kids, Parent Baby/Toddler screenings, all running alongside their main independent film programming working in partnership with Curzon Cinemas.

The live spaces and theatre are developing music nights with bands and West End performers, late night comedy and cabaret, author readings, children’s comedy workshops and storytelling and much more.

Two Curzon screens on our doorstep! Very excited about this. Can't wait.

I lived 19 years next to that place and had to endure an ever changing dodgy combination of pricey drinks / lights too bright / lights too dim / unwelcoming bouncers / poorly themed nights / not enough people type 'bar' only to move and the fecking place manifests into cultural Shagra la.

Damn it.

This is a real Christmas present. Won't have to trek to Islington or elsewhere for decent, interesting films. Lovely!

And (SHAZAM!) a few doors along from them, a four-screen Picturehouse (planning approval last Tuesday). Think it'll be in the old Hornsey Journal offices, in part. As said elsewhere, you wait 70 years for a cinema, then two come along at once.

It'll be AWESOME!!!!! can't wait. On my doorstep. Yay!

I noticed this on their recent newsletter.

"Due to commercial factors unforeseen by either party, ArtHouse and Curzon have decided an amicable separation would be best for both.

ArtHouse want to provide locals with a dynamic and versatile programme of films and live productions and feel our independence and flexibility is vital in such. Rest assured we will still be providing the best in art house, independent and mainstream films."

I'm sure it will still be a great cinema. Due to open early March.

I really hope this works out for them without whatever clout it was that Curzon would have brought.  The prospect of a cinema, and an interesting one at that, at the end of my road is amazing.  Though I have been beginning to wonder if they would ever get to the point of opening.

Very glad it's still opening. We need a decent cinema in the area. I'm sure it will be well supported.

It opens this Friday.

great news, thanks for letting us know. Won't have to trek far now for a decent cinema!
