Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I see these chaining posts (see attached photo, what are they actually called?) all around London but not in Harringay.

With the chronic lack of secure parking spaces in our council and with motorbike theft always on the up, why don't they provide them here?

I had my motorbike stolen a couple of years ago from just outside my window near Turnpike Lane and the Police closed the case straight away due to lack of witnesses, CCTV, debris, whatever, and the council doesn't seem to be too bothered either.

Now I'd really need a new motorbike as my new workplace is quite a lot farther than the old one but I really don't want to experience having my bike stolen again, it was one of the worst things ever.

Are we really left to our own luck? Is it not possible to request them and have them installed where needed?

There's so few of us that we are really a nuisance more than anything else for the authorities and we get pushed around from all sides.

In other countries bikes are allowed on bus lanes throughout, parking on pavements (over a minimum width to obviously respect pedestrians), advance boxes are shared with cyclists (it makes more sense to allow the vehicles with the fastest getaway at the front, not the slowest), etc.

If you look at the bright side, at least in haringey we have a lot of flexibility in terms of parking, unlike other boroughs (33 boroughs in london and they cannot even sort out a common set of driving and parking rules, that really would be a good joke, if it weren't real).

So if you want to secure your bike, get a ground anchor if you can, or two locks if you can't park in your front garden. A tracking device is a must if the bike is sexy and a battery charger if you are going to put an alarm on it.
