Hadn't noticed that. It looks like they'll be knocking down the old cinema (now bowling alley and Lidl). Does that mean they'll be taking your drumming spot too?

Don't you mean South Stroud Green 'town centre' ?

Have you been looking at your history books, James? Stroud Green is what the area now referred as Finsbury Park was called before the station arrived.

I always wondered if this was the actual green...

Would the proposed development involve any building over Metropolitan Open Land?

Anne: I went to the consultation. There is some argument about the northern border and whether or not it encroaches on MOL. I wasn't impressed with Rowan's the three councils' plans. Seemed half-baked to me.

I'm really pleased to see that this area is finally getting a bit of attention - it's long overdue.

Agree. But the attention needs to come from councils working on behalf of residents, not from planning departments working as de facto agents of a single property developer. Council attention to minor aspects of the area ("improvements under viaduct") shouldn't act as a fig leaf for one land owner's interests.

The model shown at last night's consultation shows a multistorey building, part of a large block, overlooking the park. The only positive factor is the removal of some of the current buildings allowing a view through from the bus station to the park.

However, there's a great opportunity here to improve the southernmost end of of the park.

If the goal of the three councils really is a Finsbury Park Town Centre—as it should be—then they need to rethink the future of the whole Finbury Park bus and railway station area, including the triangular island that separates the stations from the main road (Seven Sisters).

Reinstating and greening this boundary would have an impact visible from the crossroads at the heart of Finsbury Park Town Centre and respect, rather than ignore the original Finsbury Gates.

Yes, agree. Will be making similar point.

The part that is (largely) Islington's half-baked proposal for our park appears to be a fig-leaf for a single property owner's development intentions. It's nowhere near good enough for such a major area and public space.

great response.

Be wary of greeks bearing gift horses...this is the ploy for "regenerating" an area through demolish & displace, smash and grab development that is threatening communities in North Tottenham, at Wards Corner and in Elephant and Castle.
It is clear from the goals in the plans that the intention is to REDEVELOP and increase the number of retail units (applying a model that is failing) and massive increase in the number of small housing units (1 & 2 bed flats when need also have a chronic shortage of affordable good-sized family units) which it is true that London needs but which if badly conceived can be counterproductive since they increase transience (475 stuudent units!) or can result in the destruction of much appreciated local neighbourhood streetscape, but only marginal increases in residents/council tax receipts because the properties are sold on the open market and snapped up by property investor-stashers, who leave them empty as has happend in Angel-Islington.
Protection through listing of heritage assets guarantees NOTHING - The Ward's Corner building and the Smithfields markets redevelpment led by huge financial interests are prime examples.

The realities is our Council's are cash strapped and desperate! And they love ticking boxes!

JJ, your current link does not compute!

Yes, similarities with Wards Corner.

I am surprised at how nakedly a council—here, Islington—appears in effect, to be promoting the interests of a single land owner and arguably, against the public interest. Yet Rowan's building is in our Borough. Perhaps good old Haringey Council can come to the rescue!
