Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I have again asked for some enforcement action by the council against HGVs using Wightman Road and the ladder roads.

I am pleased to say that I have just had an email from the Parking Infrastructure Manager to say that they will be carrying out some enforcement this week between 7am and 8.30am.

Lets hope it starts to send a message to the companies that they lorries belong to.

"Happy to host a temp camera on my upstairs window sill if this also helps, perhaps with some siesmic 'shake-ometer' type equipment to see what the vibrational impact of teh hump just up from me is...."

Where can we get one?

There are some Seismograph smartphone apps that say they can take a photo at preset vibration levels. I've not tried any so no idea how well they work. Seach in the app stores.

I was actually only kidding, but I will have a look later hahaha.

Gary Weston, the council officer dealing with this said that if we provide registration numbers and company names he will write to the offenders (numbers permitting of course).  I am not sure about images - I'll ask the question.

Response from Gary as follows:-

Haringey can only use footage for enforcement which is captured on equipment which has a valid technical certificate to be able to issue valid Penalty Notices.

Enforcement continues and they have issued 150 plus notices.

I'd say that is still worth capturing them on film as its easier to pick out the reg numbers and company names

Thanks, that makes sense. Hopefully you can identify repeat offenders, especially after they might have been issued a penalty- even if all they get is a letter telling them to watch it.

Fippo, would you be able to forward me these two clips please.  I want to forward the Jewsons one to them.  You can use karen.alexander.haringeylibdems@gmail.com

Thanks

Hi, I'm relatively new to the area but am already getting annoyed by the abuse of the weight restriction.

Just a thought but have Jewsons ever been contacted directly about their drivers flouting the restriction?

Daniel.

@ dbh

I believe they have and they promised that, while they obviously require access to their depot, they would instruct their drivers to moderate their speed on the Ladder roads. It seems that this instruction is being ignored.

The pics Fippo posted above are classic. Some muppet in a truck taking humps at speed because there is basically no risk to their vehicle in doing so.

I used to work for the Post Office, and I remember one of the many issues they had was the quality of the driving of by their van drivers. Basically the issue was cultural (from an organisation perspective) and they just did not bother to focus on it- so it did not improve. Smoe may say it has still not improved.

I think another issue is that the weight restriction sign has vanished (I wonder who removed it) from the top of Burgoyne Road and therefore the Jewsons drivers can godown the road because in their mind there is no warning that they shouldn't be doing this.

PLEASE can we have the sign back at the top of Burgoyne (and other roads)? Or maybe we could make our own!! :)

Daniel, yes, we have tried to engage with Jewson's over this.  The full details are clear from this thread - the executive summary is that after much talk, they told us that they could do what they wanted, and as a consequence nothing changed.
