Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

While I was passing by the Arena end of Green Lane on a bus last weekend, I noticed a new banner in Chinese at the top of a premise near/next to a bar (maybe, that was Oasis, or maybe, it wasn't).  It looked like a grocery shop.  Does anyone know anything more about the place?

It is around here:

Ah, thanks!  I suspected that there is already a post for it.  Great news.

I was very excited to see that an Asian supermarket was opening nearby, and I went inside briefly a week or so ago to have a look. I'm sorry to say it was a bit disappointing - it is really quite small so didn't have most of the things I would want to buy on a regular basis. Also the guy in there insisted on following me around and pointing out to me everything that was on the shelves which made the experience even more claustrophobic. Probably a cultural difference - I'm sure he thought he was just being attentive to a customer - so I've tried not to hold that against him, particularly as it is always good to have a new kind of store opening in our neighbourhood. I'd be interested to hear what others think.

It's not in the Arena per se - you have to walk up Green Lanes, past Homebase and towards Manor House, and it's in the little row of shops just before the Hermitage Rd lights.

Yes, that'll be the wonderful Zhous - lovely people, great seafood, good range.

I haven't been to the new one yet. I tried yesterday on my way past it at 1:00, but it was closed.

Yes, English is very limited. I'm lucky enough to have a live-in translator!

Nice to know this too, but a bit of track from Burgoyne Rd.

It's great to have both! Does the one on Green Lanes do seafood too?

I think it did have some in its freezer - I saw a small selection of dim sum there as well.

Thanks for the tip about the Whymark Ave supermarket in the other thread. I will head up there on the weekend and see if I can get my fix of Japanese seaweed topping/seasoning for rice!

Well, there is always a problem in premise of catering all the range of Oriental cuisines as one can't cover them all.  Though Chinese grocers in Western countries have the tradition of catering other Oriental/Asian communities, so I hope their stock will become a bit more enriched over time.  And well said, more variety is good and it is much welcome to this Japanese who wants a Oriental food supply at my door step!  Anyway, I will go over there this weekend and see what we can see.

Do you know the official hours?

They have a blackboard outside saying from 1pm but can't remember what time they close. Been in there most weeks now (occasionally multiple times when I realise I've forgotten something *lol*) Definitely upping the stakes in terms of stock and have discovered a whole load of new foods - Korean rice cakes, for one!
