Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Aaargh! She's at it again. Barely have we hung the baubles on the branches and switched on the lights and Mrs Eds starts on about how to get rid of the flamin' tree!

Last year saw a lot less of this

and a lot more of this

but it's still handy to be reminded of what to do with your tree on January 7th

There are three possible ways to recycle your Christmas tree in Haringey, but before you use any of them please remember to remove all lights and decorations.

If you receive a green garden waste collection, you can cut your tree into smaller pieces (maximum length 1 metre or 3 feet) and put it out for collection. It is essential that your tree is cut into smaller pieces, otherwise it cannot be collected

Christmas trees can also be taken to Haringey's Reuse and Recycling Centres:

  • Hornsey Centre - 35 High Street, N8 7QB
  • Tottenham Centre - Park View Road, N17 9AY

Opening times:
Monday to Friday: 8.30am to 4pm
Saturday and Sunday: 9am to 4pm

Alternatively, you can take them to designated sites in the following parks

from Monday 7 January - Sunday 27 January 2013:

  • Albert Road Recreation Ground (Staff yard) - Bidwell Gardens, N11
  • Bruce Castle Park (Staff yard) - Lordship Lane, N17
  • Down Lane Recreation Ground (Staff yard) - Park View Road, N17
  • Downhills Park (Staff yard) - Downhills Park Road, N17
  • Finsbury Park (Staff yard) - Endymion Road, N4*
  • The Gardens Community Garden - Doncaster Gardens, N4*
  • Priory Park (Staff yard) - Barrington Road, N8
  • Woodside Park (Staff yard) - High Road, N22

*The two Harringay sites

As ever the annual Spotting Christmas Tree Carcasses competition will open from Jan 7th. Latest spot wins. I think John D tried to claim the record for finding one discarded in May but as photographic evidence is required Alan's April tree is still the current record holder

Indeed, this post reminds me of those BACK TO SCHOOL BARGAIN ads which used appear in July and annoy the hell out of me as I tried to recuperate after three terms of the wee buggers.

I've always left my tree out by my bins (not chopped up, we don't have the equipment for that) and the binmen/ recycling people (not sure who, dint see them take it) removed it. Are you saying they no longer do this, this year?
It's a cut and paste from Haringey council website. I think they always ask you to do this but they don't seem to mind if you don't. I suppose it depends on the size of the tree. All they're saying is cut the tree in half in effect assuming ppl have a 2m tree.
Ah right, thanks Liz. I've been putting mine out whole for over 12 years, so hopefully they will take it. It's not a huge one.

If they not, we'll have to carry it round to the recycling centre as a last resort.
We drag ours to Finsbury Park each year and in the process give Wightman Road a jolly good sweep.
Dont forget your closest Xmas Tree recycling point is the "The Gardens Community Garden" for most people in the St Ann's & Harringay Wards.

The GRA started to the collection point to promote recycling and to stop the very sad site of the unloved xmas tree's being tossed out into the street and the seeing the sad almost tumbleweed image on our streets. Please use the Community Garden facility to recycle your tree. We are your local site and get 60 to 70 trees every year.

We are "The Gardens Community Garden (GRA) off Stanhope Gardens, off Green Lanes N4 1HX collection Times 9am to 5pm everyday

Thanks
Andy - Garden Co-ordinator

Yup there is a massive pile growing now in the corner of Priory Park.... it's getting shredded and used to scatter around the tress in the park.
